Obtaining a lawyer when purchasing a property in Italy is not a legal requirement; however it is very highly recommended as they will work on behalf of you, the buyer, to ensure that the property you are buying is problem free. Having an English speaking Italian lawyer (not an Italian speaking English lawyer, very important) will save you many headaches and the extra cost will be well worth it giving you total peace of mind.

A final point - You wouldn't do your own conveyancing when buying in the UK, so we recommend not doing it in Italy!
